Dr. Mark J. Browne

Mark Browne is an Associate Professor of Risk Management and Insurance at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Prior to coming to Madison, he was on the faculty of the University of Georgia. He holds a bachelors, masters, and doctoral degree from the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School. He has served as a consultant to business - including IBM, General Casualty Insurance Company, and the Wisconsin Dairy Herd Improvement Coop - on issues relating to risk management, insurance, and employee benefits. His research has appeared in the Journal of Risk and Insurance, the Journal of Insurance Regulation, the CPCU Journal, and Inquiry.

Browne's research has examined a number of issues including adverse selection in health insurance markets, the international demand for property and liability insurance, the insurance underwriting cycle, insurer insolvencies, health insurance underwriting, and the effects of tort reform on litigation and claims settlement. He teaches courses in risk management, employee benefits, and health insurance.
