On June 18 the Michigan House voted to repeal a film producer subsidy program created in 2008 by former Gov. Jennifer Granholm with broad bipartisan support in the Legislature. The repeal bill passed 63-46.
Just one of those voting for repeal was a Democrat: Rep. Rose Mary Robinson of Detroit.
In March, Robinson had said on public television's “Off the Record” program that she was a “left winger” who wanted to eliminate the credits saying, “I’m very much against corporate welfare.”
ForTheRecord says: Since 2008 the film subsidy program has given some $500 million in tax breaks and direct cash subsidies to film producers, entirely paid for by Michigan taxpayers. When it came time to count votes Robinson stayed true to her word and refused to follow the party line.
