State Budget Growth Outpaces Inflation

Gov. Rick Snyder’s executive budget recommendation for the fiscal year that begins Oct. 1 proposes spending $32.083 billion in state dollars (not including federal money). That’s a 3.5 percent increase over the current budget, which authorized spending $30.998 billion state dollars. Snyder’s budget team projects inflation will be 2.1 percent next year; the 2016 inflation rate was 1.2 percent.
