Lockdown Fine Print Also A Challenge For Whitmer, Family

' ... travel during the epidemic is strongly discouraged'

Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer made these two public statements about a month apart:

April 24 - On an executive order allowing travel between residences:

The press release stated: “It will also permit individuals to travel between their residences, though such travel during the epidemic is strongly discouraged.”

Gretchen Whitmer: "Data shows that most Michiganders are doing their part by staying home and staying safe. That’s good, but we must keep it up. Social distancing is our best weapon to defeat this enemy."

May 26 - On her husband travelling 184 miles one way to get to the family's second home:

Gretchen Whitmer: “So as you know, a few weeks ago we dropped the travel ban so that if people had a second residence it was permitted to go to a second residence. My husband did go up to our place in Antrim County and raked some leaves and came home. So he was there. We did not all pile in the car to go enjoy our second home, although that would have been permitted if we had. But the fact of the matter is he was there briefly for a night, I think, one or two nights, and came right back home after he raked our leaves.”
