Flint Started Online School Early, And 55% Of Students Showed Up

The plan Flint Public Schools adopted for the 2020-21 school year included opening in August for online classes only. But just 55% of the students enrolled in the district appeared for class during a six-day period in August when school was underway.

The Flint school district began its online classes on Aug. 5. On Sept. 1 the district announced it would not open the schools to in-person classes. The district will only offer online classes due to the coronavirus epidemic.

On those six days in August there were 12,114 students who participated in online classes, out of a total enrollment of 22,077. The figures were provided by the district in response to a Freedom of Information Act request.

The data covers Aug. 10 to 13, and Aug. 17 and 18.
